Hello Autumn Creek Families!

Autumn Creek students and staff are focused on improving math through productive struggle, discourse, and feedback. Students are solving math tasks and real world math word problems with a partner or small group while their teachers give them valuable and immediate feedback. Teachers are giving students time to solve complex math problems 3-5 days a week.  Students are talking through the problems with other students, learning how to persevere through difficult situations and how to solve problems that sometimes have multiple solutions.

In reading, teachers and students are focusing on reading informational text in small groups and in individual reading conferences. Teachers create structured lessons focusing on using context clues and knowledge of word parts to define unknown vocabulary in informational text.  Teachers are also asking challenging comprehension questions while teaching students about different nonfiction text structures and text features. Teachers are providing students with timely and valuable feedback all along their reading journey.

Autumn Creek students also have time for acceleration and additional support in math and reading. Our instructional coaches, our gifted education teacher, and our math and reading interventionists support teachers and students to ensure everyone gets what they need.

Teachers and our social workers continue their work in teaching social emotional lessons in the classrooms. The Second Step program was adopted by the district to teach students social emotional skills. Classroom teachers are also teaching social emotional lessons during their daily morning meetings. Lessons include coping strategies to help students regulate their emotions. The goal for our students is to develop the social emotional skills they need to address various real life situations, solve interpersonal problems, set realistic and attainable goals, and be academically successful.

This year our school motto is "On Our Learning Journey." We are all learning at Autumn Creek. Sometimes our learning is quick and easy, and at other times, our learning is slow and steady.  All learning is valued at Autumn Creek, and academic and social emotional growth are our goals. Students and staff work daily on demonstrating the core values of being respectful, responsible, and safe, and treating others with kindness.

I am excited about our learning journey this school year. With the continued support of Autumn Creek families, I know that students can and will continue their growth towards academic success.

Go Autumn Creek Foxes!
